Effects of experimental parameters in monitoring the hydration of cement mortars by ultrasonic testing
Keskin, Ö. Kasap; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Tokyay, Mustafa (2012-12-01)
In ultrasonic pulse velocity testing, frequency and the travel path length are important parameters that determine the attenuation rate and the influence of near-field effect. Higher frequencies and longer distances result in higher attenuation. On the other hand, smaller path lengths are not desirable due to near-field effect. This study investigated the effect of transducer frequency and the length of path used to determine ultrasonic wave velocity in monitoring the hydration process of fresh cement morta...
Effects of sensitivity derivatives on aerodynamic design optimization
Eyi, Sinan (Informa UK Limited, 2007-10-01)
The effects of sensitivity derivatives on the performance of aerodynamic design optimization were evaluated. Sensitivity derivatives were obtained by both analytical and finite-difference approaches. A sensitivity code was developed to analytically obtain sensitivity derivatives for the two-dimensional Euler equations using the material derivative concept of continuum mechanics. Several inverse design optimizations were performed to evaluate the merits of the analytical approach in comparison with the finit...
Effects of periodic flow fluctuations on magnetic resonance flow images
Uludağ, Yusuf; McCarthy, MJ (Wiley, 2004-08-01)
The effects of periodic velocity fluctuations on magnetic resonance flow images are investigated experimentally and theoretically. In the experiments, laminar pipe flow of water was examined. The flow was driven by a constant pressure head with a superimposed sinusoidal component with the frequency m, varied from 0 to 1 Hz, whereas in the simulations omega(z) was between 0 to 65 Hz. The velocity profiles obtained from the experimental results compare well with the theoretical calculations. Both theory and e...
