Long Tsunami Oscillations Following the 30 October 2020 Mw 7.0 Aegean Sea Earthquake: Observations and Modelling
Heidarzadeh, Mohammad; Pranantyo, Ignatius Ryan; Okuwaki, Ryo; Dogan, Gozde Guney; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet (2021-01-01)
Eastern Mediterranean Sea has experienced four tsunamigenic earthquakes since 2017, which delivered moderate damage to coastal communities in Turkey and Greece. The most recent of these tsunamis occurred on 30 October 2020 in the Aegean Sea, which was generated by an Mw 7.0 normal-faulting earthquake, offshore Izmir province (Turkey) and Samos Island (Greece). The earthquake was destructive and caused death tolls of 117 and 2 in Turkey and Greece, respectively. The tsunami produced moderate damage and kille...
Long-Term Trends and Temporal Synchrony in Plankton Richness, Diversity and Biomass Driven by Re-Oligotrophication and Climate across 17 Danish Lakes
Özkan, Korhan; Davidson, Thomas A.; Bjerring, Rikke; Johansson, Liselotte S.; Sondergaard, Martin; Lauridsen, Torben L.; Svenning, Jens-Christian (2016-10-01)
A two-decade (1989-2008) time series of lake phyto-and zooplankton, water characteristics and climate in 17 Danish lakes was analysed to examine the long term changes and the effects of lake restoration efforts. The analyses of the pair-wise correlations across time series revealed a strong synchrony in climatic variables among the lakes. A significant, but weak increase in air temperature was observed and resulted in a corresponding increase in surface water temperature only in summer. Lake physico-chemica...
Long-term load forecasting: models based on MARS, ANN and LR methods
Nalçacı, Gamze; Weber, Gerhard Wilhelm (2019-12-01)
Electric energy plays an irreplaceable role in nearly every person's life on earth; it has become an important subject in operational research. Day by day, electrical load demand grows rapidly with increasing population and developing technology such as smart grids, electric cars, and renewable energy production. Governments in deregulated economies make investments and operating plans of electric utilities according to mid- and long-term load forecasting results. For governments, load forecasting is a vita...
Short-term trend prediction in financial time series data
Ozorhan, Mustafa Onur; Toroslu, İsmail Hakkı; Şehitoğlu, Onur Tolga (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2019-10-01)
This paper presents a method to predict short-term trends in financial time series data found in the foreign exchange market. Trends in the Forex market appear with similar chart patterns. We approach the chart patterns in the financial markets from a discovery of motifs in a time series perspective. Our method uses a modified Zigzag technical indicator to segment the data and discover motifs, expectation maximization to cluster the motifs and support vector machines to classify the motifs and predict accur...
