© 2022 Victoria I. Marín et al., published by De Gruyter.Open Educational Resources (OER) in higher education cannot be put into practice without considering institutional contexts, which differ not only globally but also within the same country. Each institutional context provides educators with opportunities or limitations where Open Educational Practices (OEP) and OER for teaching and learning are involved. As part of a broader research project, and as a follow-up to national perspectives, an international comparison was conducted, based on institutional cases of nine different higher education systems (Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Japan, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Turkey). Aspects regarding the availability of infrastructure and institutional policies for OER, as well as the existence of measures directed at OER quality assurance and at the promotion of the development and use of OER were covered. The resulting theoretical contribution sheds light on an international comparative view of OER and points towards country-specific trends, as well as differences among institutions. These aspects could provide an impetus for the development of institutional guidelines and measures. In line with international literature on the topic, recommendations are derived to promote/ enhance the use of OER in teaching and learning in higher education at the institutional level.

Linear Contrasts for Time Series Data with Non-Normal Innovations: An Application to a Real Life Data
Yıldırım, Özgecan; Yozgatlıgil, Ceylan; Şenoğlu, Birdal (2017-12-08)
Yıldırım et al. [5] estimated the model parameters and introduced a test statistic in one-way classification AR(1) model under the assumption of independently and identically distributed (iid) error terms having Student’s t distribution, see also [4]. In this study, we extend their study to linear contrasts which is a well-known and widely used comparison method when the null hypothesis about the equality of the treatment means is rejected, see [3], [4]. See also [1] and [2] in the context of ANOVA. A test ...
Case study of science and social studies teachers co-teaching socioscientific issues-based instruction Fen bilimleri ve sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin sosyobilimsel konular temelli öğretimi: Durum çalışması
Karahan, Engin; Roehrig, Gillian (2017-01-01)
© 2017 Ani Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.Purpose: Science education literature has indicated that teachers do not always feel comfortable teaching socioscientific issues (SSI) that are infused with several social domains. In order to address this problem in teaching SSI, this study is designed to understand and describe the experiences of a science teacher and a social studies teacher, who collaboratively designed and taught an SSI-based environmental ethics class. Research Methods: The purpose of thi...
Institutional imperatives versus emergent dynamics: a case study on continuous change in higher education
Kondakçı, Yaşar (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2009-10-01)
This qualitative case study examines continuous change in a higher education organization (HEO). Both real time and retrospective data covering a 6-year period of the case were collected. The findings suggest that, in order to meet institutional imperatives the HEO defined several managerial and academic domains when the internationalization process was launched. When organizational members activate these domains they confronted with local needs, problems, and opportunities, which enable them to modify, upd...
Comment on 'Rockfall avalance deposits associated with normal faulting in the NW of the Cankiri basin: implications for the post-collisional tectonic evolution of the Neo-Tethyan suture zone' by G. Seyitoglu, N. Kazanci, L. Karadenizli, S. Sen, B. Varol, and T. Karabiyikoglu
Kaymakcı, Nuretdin (Wiley, 2003-04-01)
Seyitoglu et al. (2000) described their interpretation, based on a single fault surface and rockfall avalanche deposits previously mapped as a W-vergent thrust klippen above the Neogene successions in the Hancili Basin, that in central Anatolia there was a single extensional basin throughout the Miocene - Early Pliocene. It was later fragmented by a structural high of Neo-Tethyan ophiolitic basement bounded by an E-vergent thrust fault in the east along the western margin of the Cankiri Basin and a west-dip...
Affordances and Emergence of Concepts
Atıl, Ilkay; Dağ, Nilgün; Kalkan, Sinan; Şahin, Erol (2010-11-05)
In this paper, we used the affordance formalization framework (Sahin et al; Adaptive Behavior, 15(4), 447-472, 2007) to link the concepts represented by verbs and nouns in language to the affordance relations that a robot acquires through its interaction with the environment. First, we argued that a verb is linked not to a specific behavior of the robot, but to a specific effect that different behaviors may generate. We showed how demonstrations made by a human can allow the robot to learn an effect pr...
