Experimental Investigation of Optimal Gap Distance between Rotors of a Quadrotor UAV
Kaya, Dilber Derya; Kutay, Ali Türker; Tekinalp, Ozan (2017-06-09)
The effect of spacing between the rotors of a quadrotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in hovering flight is investigated. Experiments are conducted to obtain a mathematical relation between the diameter of the rotor and gap distance between each rotor. Constraints such as the maximum thrust force and minimum energy consumption are imposed. Several rotors having different sizes are tested at various RPMs with a changing gap distances, and total thrust produced by four rotors is measured. The results are give...
Experimental investigation of flow characteristics of flexible wings with different stiffener orientations in linear translating motion
Karakaş, Hasan Halil; Perçin, Mustafa; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2022-8-12)
This study experimentally investigates the flow field around the wings, which first accelerate with constant acceleration from the rest and then perform a linear translating motion with constant velocity. Four wings, which are 3D-printed, with a bending stiffness in different directions are examined. The difference in bending stiffness values is achieved by placing stiffeners having different angles with the leading edge on the upper surface of the wing. The stiffeners are printed with wings to obtain well-...

Experimental Study Of Robot Formation Control And Navigation Using Potential Functions And Panel Method
Merheb, Abdel Razzak; Atas, Yunus; Gazi, Veysel; Sezer Uzol, Nilay (2010-06-09)
In this paper an implementation of a collision free navigation algorithm for robot swarm based on the panel method is discussed. The well known panel method is used to solve the governing equations for inviscid incompressible potential flow around rigid objects with tangency boundary conditions, providing the robots with safe trajectories to the target. In addition, artificial potential functions are used to force the swarm to achieve a predefined geometrical shape. Experimental results are obtained using e...
Experimental Evaluation of Panel-Method-Based Path Planning for eVTOL in A Scaled Urban Environment
Ünal, Zeynep; Bronz, Murat; Yavrucuk, İlkay (2022-01-01)
In this study, previously proposed panel method based path planning for electric vertical take off and landing vehicles in urban environments is tested in a high fidelity simulation environment and with real-life drones in an indoor flight arena. Panel method is a numerical tool, borrowed form fluid dynamics domain, that can generate collision free paths for multiple vehicles in environments with arbitrarily shaped obstacles while guaranteeing obstacle avoidance and convergence to global minima with little ...
