Muzzle voltage is an essential diagnostic tool used in both contact resistance modeling and transition determination. However, it is challenging to stem the necessary meanings from the collected measurements. In this study, EMFY-3 launch experiments are used to understand the transition mechanism's muzzle voltage characteristics. These experiments have muzzle energies ranging between 1.69 and 2.85 MJ in ASELSAN Electromagnetic Launcher (EML) Laboratory. Six different launch tests with various rail current waveforms that ranged between 1.5 and 2.1 MA are used to investigate different scenarios. Some parameters which affect muzzle voltage are calculated with the 3-D finite element method (FEM), i.e., rail mutual inductance L-m . Muzzle voltages are decomposed into subsections; each subsection is calculated with proper models. Simulation results are coherent with experimental measurements. Findings are compared with previous studies, and differences are explained with possible reasons. Even though we could not conclusively resolve which physical quantity starts to transition, the study showed that transition does not form a specific muzzle velocity, armature action integral (AAI), or down-slope rail current ratio.

Muzzle Voltage Characteristics of Railguns
Tosun, Nail; Gulletutan, Gorkem; Keysan, Ozan; Yurdakonar, Ferhat; Karagoz, Mustafa (2021-01-01)
© 2021 IEEE.Muzzle voltage is an essential diagnostic tool used in both contact resistance modeling and transition determination. However, it is challenging to stem the necessary meanings from the collected measurements. However, these measurements should be decomposed to deliver meaningful data. Thus, in this study the muzzle voltage is decomposed into three subsections, each of them calculated with proper models. The modeling strategies are discussed to understand the transition mechanism better. Some par...
INVIVO IMAGING OF CARDIAC RELATED IMPEDANCE CHANGES
Eyüboğlu, Behçet Murat; BARBER, DC (1989-03-01)
Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) produces cross-sectional images of the electrical resistivity distribution within the body, made from voltage or current measurements through electrodes attached around the body. The authors describe a gated EIT system to image the cardiogenic electrical resistivity variations and the results of in vivo studies on human subjects. It is shown that the sensitivity of EIT to tissue resistivity variations due to blood perfusion is good enough to image blood flow to the lung...
Multi-frequency contactless electrical impedance imaging using realistic head models : single coil simulations
Gürsoy, Doğa; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
Contactless electrical impedance imaging technique is based upon the measurement of secondary electromagnetic fields caused by induced currents inside the body. In this study, a circular single-coil is used as a transmitter and a receiver. The purpose of this study is twofold: (1) to solve the induced current density distribution inside the realistic head model resulting from a sinusoidal excitation, (2) to calculate the impedance change of the same coil from the induced current distribution inside the head...
STARTING TRANSIENTS IN SLIP ENERGY RECOVERY INDUCTION-MOTOR DRIVES .1. FORMULATION AND MODELING
AKPINAR, E; PILLAY, P; Ersak, Aydın (1992-03-01)
A detailed study of the rotor phenomena including the rectifier commutation angle and inverter harmonics is facilitated by the use of the actual rotor conduction sequence variables instead of transformed variables that are used in most other IM drive systems. The starting transients of slip energy recovery IM drives comprising three stages are presented here; (a) the starting from zero speed with a starting resistor connected to the output of the rotor rectifier; (b) a transition period in which the invert...
Time varying control of magnetohydrodynamic duct flow
Evcin, Cansu; Uğur, Ömür; Tezer, Münevver (2021-09-01)
Optimal control of the unsteady, laminar, fully developed flow of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid is considered under the effect of a time varying magnetic field B0(t) applied in the direction making an angle with the y–axis. Thus, the coefficients of convection terms in the Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations are also time-dependent. The coupled time-dependent MHD equations are solved by using the mixed finite element method (FEM) in space and the implicit Euler scheme in time....
