Strengthening the structural behavior of adobe walls through the use of plaster reinforcement mesh
TURANLI, LUTFULLAH; Sarıtaş, Afşin (2011-04-01)
This study presents an experimental investigation on the use of additives and plaster mesh in adobe wall panels. Three different groups of adobe soil mixture are considered for forming adobe blocks in wall panels with and without mesh placement along horizontal mortar joints. The groups consist of plain adobe blocks, blocks with 1% straw and 10% fly ash. Wall panels are loaded under diagonal compressive axial load in order to evaluate their ultimate load capacities, deformability, and energy absorption char...
Enhancing preservice science teachers’ SSI teaching self-efficacy beliefs and character and values for global citizenship
Yılmaz Tüzün, Özgül; Çakıroğlu, Jale (ERPA: Educational Researches and Publications Association; 2017-05-21)
The purpose of this study was to enhance preservice sc teachers’ SSI teaching self-efficacy beliefs and their character and values for global citizenship. A total of 52 senior PSTs participated to the study. The data were collected by utilizing two instruments: SSI Teaching Self-Efficacy Beliefs Instrument, and Character and Values as Global Citizens Assessment Questionnaire and they were admnistered as pre and post surveys as the begining and ant the end of Science Technology Society course. The results re...
Promoting Conceptual Understanding with Explicit Epistemic Intervention in Metacognitive Instruction: Interaction Between the Treatment and Epistemic Cognition
Yerdelen Damar, Sevda; Eryılmaz, Ali (null; 2014-09-05)
This study investigated the effect of the metacognitive instruction in which students’ epistemic cognitions were explicitly addressed, on tenth-grade students’ conceptual understandings regarding force and motion. The participants of the study included 107 (49 female, 58 male) tenth-grade students at two public high schools. A quasi-experimental design was employed. Two intact classes of each school were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. The Force and Motion Conceptual Tests I and II...

Supporting problem-solving performance in a hypermedia learning environment: The role of students' prior knowledge and metacognitive skills
Tokel, Saniye Tuğba (2012-07-01)
This study investigated how students with different prior knowledge and metacognitive skills benefited from continuous and faded domain-general and domain-specific scaffolds. Students' scores on a multiple-choice pretest, inventory of metacognitive self-regulation, and solution forms were analyzed. Results indicated that while students with lower regulation of cognition and objectivity benefited more from the domain-general scaffolds than the domain-specific ones, students with lower prior knowledge, knowle...
