Vibration-based Damage Identification in Sandwich Beams using Artificial Neural Networks
Şahin, Melin (2010-09-17)
This study investigates the effectiveness of the combination of global (natural frequency) and local (curvature mode shape) vibration characteristics of a glass fibre reinforced plastic sandwich beam-like structure when introduced to artificial neural networks for severity and location prediction of various damage with different extent at different locations. A finite element modelling and analysis tool is used to obtain the dynamic characteristics of both intact and damaged cantilever sandwich structures a...
Vibration measurements predict the mechanical properties of human tibia
Bediz, Bekir; Özgüven, Hasan Nevzat; Korkusuz, Feza (Elsevier BV, 2010-05-01)
Background: Vibration analysis is a promising technique in diagnosing metabolic bone diseases such as osteoporosis and monitoring fracture healing. The aim of this study is to observe the structural dynamic property changes of the tibia extracted from the vibration analysis data.
VIBRATION OF MINDLIN PLATES SYMMETRICALLY COLUMN-SUPPORTED AT 4 POINTS
AKSU, G (Elsevier BV, 1993-09-17)
This paper deals with the free vibration characteristics of Mindlin plates that are symmetrically column-supported at four points. The finite difference technique, based on the energy approach, is used. The first lowest four natural frequency parameters are determined for various values of the finite area of the column supports. Detailed results are given for various values of relative thickness ratio and the effects of transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia are examined.
Vibration isolation module for a towed array
Batmaz, Ömer; Çalışkan, Mehmet; Özgen, Gökhan Osman; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2014)
Today, towed arrays are widely utilized in both civilian and military applications such as oil/gas explorations or submarine/torpedo detections under the water. Hydrophones are linearly arranged in the acoustic section of a towed array. These hydrophones convert the reverberated acoustical signals from targets into electrical signals and send them to the data acquisition center on the tow vessel. Any kind of noise on hydrophones negatively affects the performance of the array during operation. Vibrations co...
Vibration damping behavior of epoxy matrix composites reinforced with carbon fibers and carbon nanotubes
Avil, Esma; Kaynak, Cevdet; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2019)
The main objective of this study was to investigate contribution of the nonfunctionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT) on the vibration damping behavior of first neat epoxy resin and then unidirectional and bidirectional continuous carbon fiber (CF) reinforced epoxy matrix composites. Epoxy/CNT nano-composites were produced by ultrasonic solution mixing method, while the continuous CF reinforced composite laminates were obtained via resin-infusion technique. Vibration analysis data of the specimens w...
