Dispersion modelling of jet propellant 8 spill in the aerospace industry
Çelik, Olgu; Sınayuç, Çağlar; Department of Occupational Health and Safety (2020)
The purpose of this study is to identify hazards, evaluate risks and suggest safety measures in order to prevent fire and explosions due to the uncontrolled charging and the ignition of jet propellant 8, shortly JP-8, at the fueling stations in the aerospace industry. There are many different surveys on the ignition and the explosion of the fuels in the literature. However, not enough researches have been made in order to model the dispersion of the JP-8 spill in aviation. JP-8 is a petroleum product which ...
Dispersion of coupled mode-gap cavities
LİAN, Jin; SOKOLOV, Sergei; Yüce, Emre; COMBRİÉ, Sylvain; De Rossi, Alfredo; Mosk, Allard P. (2015-10-01)
The dispersion of a coupled resonator optical waveguide made of photonic crystal mode-gap cavities is pronouncedly asymmetric. This asymmetry cannot be explained by the standard tight binding model. We show that the fundamental cause of the asymmetric dispersion is the inherent dispersive cavity mode profile; i.e., the mode wave function depends on the driving frequency, not the eigenfrequency. This occurs because the photonic crystal cavity resonances do not form a complete set. We formulate a dispersive m...
Dispersion Corrected DFT Study of Pentacene Thin Films on Flat and Vicinal Au(111) Surfaces
METE, ERSEN; Danışman, Mehmet Fatih (2015-02-19)
Here we present a density functional theory study of pentacene ultrathin films on flat and vicinal [(455)] Au(111) surfaces. We have performed crystal and electronic structure calculations by using PBE and optB86b-vdW functionals and investigated the effects of long-range van der Waals interactions for different coverages starting from a single isolated molecule up to 4 monolayers of coverage. For an isolated molecule both functionals yield the hollow site as the most stable one with the bridge-60 site bein...
Dispersion of long waves on varying bathymetry
Kian, Rozita; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Zaytsev, Andrey (null; 2014-01-01)
Coastal dynamics of swell and long waves is important for morphological changes, near shore circulation, wave amplification, transport of sediments and pollutants, and also comfort of the boats in harbors and bays. There are different models computing near shore behavior of long waves and tsunamis under different input wave and bathymetric and morphological conditions. NAMI DANCE (developed in collaboration with METU, Turkey and Special Bureau of Automation of Research Russian Academy of Sciences, Russia) a...
Dispersion of a swarm of robots based on realistic wireless intensity signals
Ugur, Emre; Turgut, Ali Emre; Şahin, Erol (2007-11-09)
The problem of dispersion in multi-robot systems could be loosely defined as maximizing the sensor coverage area while preserving the connectivity within the swarm. Dispersion of robotic swarms appears to be applicable and useful in missions such as planetary exploration, hurricane surveillance, or nuclear decontamination, where the robots with maximal coverage collect samples from the unknown surface, detect the victims, or collect nuclear waste, respectively. In this paper, a simple dispersion algorithm b...
