Image based flight data reconstruction using aeroballistic range yaw cards
Karail, Kürşat; Platin, Bülent Emre; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2005)
The only aeroballistic laboratory of Turkey is the Flight Mechanics Laboratory, FML of TÜBITAK - SAGE. In FML, flight profiles of projectiles are reconstructed using their tear marks on paper sheets, called yaw cards. Tear marks are created on yaw cards as projectiles pass through them. These yaw cards are tightly stretched to metal frames which are positioned normal to the direction of projectile flight path. The use of yaw cards for flight profile reconstruction is a low cost and reliable solution. Howeve...
Image Chain Simulation for Earth Observation Satellites
Alici, Kamil B.; Öktem, Sevinç Figen; Karci, Ozgur; Yilmaz, A. Serdar; Selimoglu, Ozgur (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2019-10-01)
We present a general-purpose end-to-end image chain simulation (ICS) that enables to assess the image quality of a satellite imager for Earth observations. The image chain consists of four main components: radiometry, atmosphere, optics, and detector. In particular, ICS first computes the input radiance from the reflectance values of a high-resolution input, and then calculates the image radiance by using the optical transfer function (OTF) of the overall system. This OTF contains all the distortion effects...
Image based solar position editing and relighting
Türe, Murat; Akyüz, Ahmet Oğuz; Department of Computer Engineering (2018)
Capturing perfect photos is a challenging task that requires good composition andtiming. Failure to achieve them may result in ‘missing the moment’. For example, when shooting photos at sunset the sun quickly disappears behind the horizon. Inthis thesis, a new image editing algorithm is defined to let the user change the sunposition in a photo. This is the first study in the literature which tries to solve this par-ticular image editing problem. The algorithm can be divided into three parts. First, the image ...
Image fusion for improving spatial resolution of multispectral satellite images
Ünlüsoy, Deniz; Süzen, Mehmet Lütfi; Department of Geological Engineering (2013)
In this study, four different image fusion techniques have been applied to high spectral and low spatial resolution satellite images with high spatial and low spectral resolution images to obtain fused images with increased spatial resolution, while preserving spectral information as much as possible. These techniques are intensity-hue-saturation (IHS) transform, principle component analysis (PCA), Brovey transform (BT), and Wavelet transform (WT) image fusion. Images used in the study belong to Çankırı reg...
Image resolution upscaling in the wavelet domain using directional cycle spinning
Temizel, Alptekin (2005-10-01)
Cycle spinning, a technique mainly used for wavelet denoising, has also been shown to be successful toward image resolution upscaling in the wavelet domain. We propose a directional variant of the cycle spinning methodology. We obtain estimates of local edge orientation from a wavelet decomposition of the available low-resolution image and use this information to influence the choice of cycle spinning parameters that are employed for resolution upscaling. Our experimental results show that the proposed meth...
