Attentive deep regression networks for real-time visual face tracking in video surveillance
Alver, Safa; Halıcı, Uğur; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
Visual face tracking is one of the most important tasks in video surveillance systems. However, due to the variations in pose, scale, expression and illumination and the occlusions in cluttered scenes, it is considered to be a difficult task. To address these challenges, in this thesis, we propose an end-to-end tracker named Attentive Face Tracking Network (AFTN) that is build on top of the GOTURN tracker. Additionally, to overcome the scarce data problem in visual face tracking, we also provide bounding bo...
Incremental processing in head-final child language: online comprehension of relative clauses in Turkish-speaking children and adults
Özge, Duygu; Zeyrek Bozşahin, Deniz (2015-10-21)
The present study investigates the parsing of pre-nominal relative clauses (RCs) in children for the first time with a real-time methodology that reveals moment-to-moment processing patterns as the sentence unfolds. A self-paced listening experiment with Turkish-speaking children (aged 5-8) and adults showed that both groups display a sign of processing cost both in subject and object RCs at different points through the flow of the utterance when integrating the cues that are uninformative (i.e., ambiguous ...
ATTRIBUTIONAL FOCUS AND INFORMATION SELECTION IN RELATION TO CHRONOLOGICAL AGE
HORTACSU, N (1987-02-01)
We tested the hypothesis that, when trying to decide whether the person, stimulus, or circumstance is the cause of an event, individuals increasingly select schema-consistent information with increasing age. Schema-consistent information selections include distinctiveness for person, consensus for stimulus, and consistency for circumstance. 9-, 12-, 15-, and 17-year-old subjects took part in the study. The results showed that age differences in schema-consistent information selections parallel the developme...

Opportunistic multiple relaying in wireless ad hoc networks
Yenihayat, Güven; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2011)
Cooperative relaying systems aim to improve weak communication links by exploiting the spatial diversity obtained by the statistically independent channels between relays and the destination. In this thesis a cooperative relaying scheme called the Opportunistic Multiple Relaying (OMR) is proposed with its special receiver structure. Unlike most relaying schemes in the literature, multiple relay nodes are allowed to transmit in nonorthogonal channels in OMR without requiring any control overhead for relay co...
