Silica coating of monodisperse hydrophobic magnetite nanoparticles through reverse microemulsion techniques
Ergül, Zeynep; Volkan, Mürvet; Özkan, Necati; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2012)
Magnetic nanoparticles find broad applications in biomedical field such as drug delivery, hyperthermia and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). For these applications magnetic nanoparticles need to be coated with suitable materials which are soluble, biocompatible and nontoxic. Among these materials, silica is the most often used coating material. This thesis is focused on preparation of silica coated iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles. Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles are synthesized by thermal decomposition ...
SILICA SYNTHESIS & COATING OF QUANTUM DOTS IN DROPLET BASED MICROREACTORS
Ozkan, Alican; Keleştemur, Yusuf; Demir, Hilmi Volkan; Erdem, E. Yegan (2015-01-01)
We present a microfluidic reactor that utilizes meandering microchannel shape to mix reagents inside droplets in a carrier fluid to synthesize silica and silica coated nanoparticles. Meandering channels decrease mixing time due to reduced diffusion lengths. Moreover; droplet-based flow provides uniform reaction times due to the circulating flow profile inside droplets as opposed to parabolic flow profile in straight channels. Before fabricating our device, we have simulated the mixing performance of droplet...
Silica embedded cobalt(0) nanoclusters: Efficient, stable and cost effective catalyst for hydrogen generation from the hydrolysis of ammonia borane
Metin, Onder; Dinc, Melek; Eren, Zeynep Seda; Özkar, Saim (2011-09-01)
Cobalt(0) nanoclusters embedded in silica (Co@SiO2) were prepared by a facile two-step procedure. In the first step, the hydrogenphosphate anion (HPO42-) stabilized cobalt(0) nanoclusters were in situ generated from the reduction of cobalt(II) chloride during the hydrolysis of sodium borohydride (NaBH4) in the presence of stabilizer. Next, HPO42- anion-stabilized cobalt(0) nanoclusters were embedded in silica formed by in situ hydrolysis and condensation of tetraethylorthosilicate added as ethanol solution....
Silafluorene-based polymers for electrochromic and polymer solar cell applications
ERLIK, Ozan; UNLU, Naime A.; HIZALAN, Gonul; HACIOGLU, Serife O.; COMEZ, Seda; Yildiz, Esra D.; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (Wiley, 2015-07-01)
In this study, four novel silafluorene (SiF) and benzotriazole (Btz) bearing conjugated polymers are synthesized. In the context of electrochemical and optical studies, these polymers are promising materials both for electrochromic device (ECD) and polymer solar cell (PSC) applications. All of the polymers are ambipolar (both p- and n-dopable) and multichromic. Electrochemistry experiments indicate that incorporation of selenophene instead of thiophene unit increases the HOMO energy level of the polymers. P...
Silicate-doped nano-hydroxyapatite/graphene oxide composite reinforced fibrous scaffolds for bone tissue engineering
Dalgıç, Ali Deniz; Tezcaner, Ayşen; Keskin, Dilek; Evis, Zafer (SAGE Publications, 2018-3-15)
In this study, novel graphene oxide-incorporated silicate-doped nano-hydroxyapatite composites were prepared and their potential use for bone tissue engineering was investigated by developing an electrospun poly(epsilon-caprolactone) scaffold. Nanocomposite groups were synthesized to have two different ratios of graphene oxide (2 and 4 wt%) to evaluate the effect of graphene oxide incorporation and groups with different silicate-doped nano-hydroxyapatite content was prepared to investigate optimum concentra...
