The texts, with a narrative structure telling a story in the first person and controlled for length, were originally written in six different languages (Finnish, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish), and rated for arousal, valence, and comprehensibility in the original language. The stories were translated into English, and the same ratings for the English translations were collected via an internet survey tool (N = 573). In addition to the rating data, we also report readability indexes for the original and English texts. The texts have been categorized into different story types based on their emotional arc. The texts score high on comprehensibility and represent a wide range of emotional valence and arousal levels. The comparative analysis of the ratings of the original texts and English translations showed that valence ratings were very similar across languages, whereas correlations between the two pairs of language versions for arousal and comprehensibility were modest. Comprehensibility ratings correlated with only some of the readability indexes. The database is published in osf.io/9tga3, and it is freely available for academic research.

CONGA: Copy number variation genotyping in ancient genomes and low-coverage sequencing data
Söylev, Arda; Çokoglu, Sevim Seda; KOPTEKİN, DİLEK; Alkan, Can; Somel, Mehmet (2022-12-01)
This is an open access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited. To date, ancient genome analyses have been largely confined to the study of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Copy number variants (CNVs) are a major contributor of disease and of evolutionary adaptation, but identifying CNVs in ancient shotgun-sequenced genomes is hampe...
ANKOS Publisher Application System and Its Impact on the e-Resource Evaluation Process

The Publisher Application System (PAS) is a Web-based archiving and online evaluation system developed by the Database Evaluation Group (DEG), one of the working groups formed within the Anatolian University Libraries Consortium (ANKOS). The DEG was formed in 2008 to inquire and evaluate e-resources suited to the needs of the consortium; to follow up similar consortial activities worldwide as well as developments in connection with the scientific publishing industry; and to determine, implement, and improve...
Semantically enriched web service composition in mobile environments
Ertürkmen, K. Alpay; Doğaç, Asuman; Department of Information Systems (2003)
Web Services are self-contained, self-describing, modular applications that can be published, located, and invoked through XML artefacts across the Web. Web services technologies can be applied to many kinds of applications, where they offer considerable advantages compared to the old world of product-specific APIs, platform-specific coding, and other أbrittleؤ technology restrictions. Currently there are millions of web services available on the web due to the increase in e-commerce business volume. Web se...
Semantic concept recognition from structured and unstructured inputs within cyber security domain
Hoşsucu, Alp Gökhan; Baykal, Nazife; Department of Information Systems (2015)
Linked data initiative has been quite successful in terms of publishing and interlinking data over ontological structures. The success is due to answering semantically rich queries over highly structured data. The utilization of linked data structures are widely used in various domains to solve the problem of producing domain specific knowledge which can be interpreted by automated agents without any human interference. Cyber security field is one of the domains that suffer from the excessiveness of the raw...
Automatic image annotation by ensemble of visual descriptors
Akbaş, Emre; Yarman Vural, Fatoş Tunay; Department of Computer Engineering (2006)
Automatic image annotation is the process of automatically producing words to de- scribe the content for a given image. It provides us with a natural means of semantic indexing for content based image retrieval. In this thesis, two novel automatic image annotation systems targeting dierent types of annotated data are proposed. The rst system, called Supervised Ensemble of Visual Descriptors (SEVD), is trained on a set of annotated images with predened class labels. Then, the system auto- matically annotates...
