Effect of loading span on tensile mode fracture toughness for three-point bend specimen geometries
Karataş Batan, Ceren; Tutluoğlu, Levend; Department of Mining Engineering (2020)
Straight notched disk bending specimen geometry has a potential to find size independent mode I fracture toughness, since the thickness of the disk loaded by threepoint bending can be increased. Increasing the thickness and decreasing the loading span of bending reduces the severe bending action at the notch tip and a pure tensile mode stress state can be achieved at and ahead of the crack tip. 3D finite element program (ABAQUS) was used for computing the stress intensity factors by numerical modeling of ci...

Effect of particle shape and roughness of talc mineral ground by different mills on the wettability and floatability
Yekeler, M; Ulusoy, U; Hicyilmaz, C (2004-02-16)
In this study, shape characteristics of talc particles produced by ball, rod and autogenous mills were investigated using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and expressed by the shape descriptors such as elongation, flatness, roundness and relative width by measuring on the particle projections in two dimensions (2D). Approximately, 139 particles were measured for image analysis from each mill product. Surface roughness values of talc mineral have been expressed by the parameters of R-a value on the pellete...
Effect of spraying rate on microstructure of spray deposited Al-Fe-V-Si alloy
Kalkanlı, Ali (Informa UK Limited, 2003-12-01)
In this study gas atomisation and spray deposition of a series of AlFeVSi alloys were carried out. Traces of transient liquid were observed as lamellar structure in the middle of the specimen. The heat transfer conditions of this structure were modelled by finite difference calculation. Metallographic specimens for optical microscopy were prepared from the preforms formed in these processes. Optical microscopy showed the presence of dispersoids in the specimens. The dispersoids were characterised as AlFeVSi...
Effect of Different Ground Scenarios on Flow Structure of a Rotor at Hover Condition
Koçak, Göktuğ; Nalbantoğlu, Volkan; Yavuz, Mehmet Metin (2017-11-21)
The ground effect of a scaled model rotor at hover condition was investigated experimentally in a confined environment. Different ground effect scenarios including full, partial, and inclined conditions, compared to out of ground condition, were characterized qualitatively and quantitatively using laser illuminated smoke visualization and Laser Doppler Anemometry measurements. The results indicate that the presence of the ground affects the flow regime near the blade tip by changing the spatial extent and t...
