Investigation of olive mill sludge treatment using a parabolic trough solar collector
Ben Othman, Fares; Eddhibi, Fathia; Bel Hadj Ali, Abdessalem; Fadhel, Abdelhamid; Bayer, Özgür; Tarı, İlker; Guizani, Amenallah; Balghouthi, Moncef (2022-01-15)
The olive mill sludge treatment system developed in this study is an indirect solar dryer driven by a solar parabolic trough collector (PTC). A heat exchanger is implemented to heat air with hot oil coming from the solar collector. The developed hot air dryer can treat up to 50 kg of olive mill sludge distributed over six trays at once. The designed system and its components are described, along with their experimental and simulated performance evaluations. With a mean direct normal irradiation (DNI) higher...
Investigation of ash deposition in a pilot-scale fluidized bed combustor co-firing biomass with lignite
Gogebakan, Zuhal; Gogebakan, Yusuf; Selçuk, Nevin; Seliuk, Ekrem (2009-01-01)
This study presents the results from investigation of ash deposition characteristics of a high ash and sulfur content lignite co-fired with three types of biomass (olive residue, 49 wt%; hazelnut shell, 42 wt%; and cotton residue, 41 wt%) in 0.3 MWt Middle East Technical University (METU) Atmospheric Bubbling Fluidized Bed Combustion (ABFBC) Test Rig. Deposit samples were collected on all air-cooled probe at a temperature of 500 degrees C. Samples were analyzed by SEM/EDX and XRD methods. The results reveal...
Investigation of Stockbridge dampers for vibration control of overhead transmission lines
Kasap, Hüseyin; Özgen, Gökhan Osman; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2012)
This thesis aims to examine the performance of Stockbridge dampers used to suppress aeolian vibrations on overhead transmission lines arising from the wind. In this respect, a computer program, based on the Energy Balance Method, is developed using MATLAB. The developed computer program has also a graphical user interface (GUI), which allows the program to interactively simulate Stockbridge damper performance for vibration control of overhead transmission lines. Field tests results obtained from literature ...
