Comparison of physical and numerical dam-break simulations
Bozkuş, Zafer (Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknik Arastirma Kurumu, 1998-01-01)
Laboratory data obtained from model studies of an existing dam under three different failure scenarios are presented. Moreover, the numerical failure simulations of the same dam were performed by employing two state-of-the-art numerical models, namely, SMPDBK and DAMBRK, both developed at the National Weather Service (NWS) in the United States. Comparison of the measured and computed results indicate that both numerical models predict peak flood elevation with somewhat reasonable accuracy. However, the resu...
Comparison of rotor inflow models for flight simulation fidelity
Güner, Feyyaz; Yavrucuk, İlkay; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2016)
In real-time rotorcraft simulations, there are various dynamic inflow models to chose from. Although dynamic inflow models are well documented in literature, a comparisons of them are not commonly available. In this thesis, dynamic inflow models commonly used in flight simulators are, namely uniform inflow, extesion of uniform inflow with Payne’s coefficients, Pitt-Peters inflow and Peters-He inflow model with higher harmonics, integrated to a well-known blade element model. A theoretical background for dyn...
Comparison of 2D and 3D finite element models of tunnel advance in soft ground: a case study on Bolu tunnels
Üçer, Serkan; Bakır, Bahadır Sadık; Department of Civil Engineering (2006)
The Bolu Tunnels lie along Trans European Motorway (TEM) which is connecting Eastern Europe with the Middle East. The tunnels are approximately 3.0 km long, 40 m apart and have excavated cross sections more than 200 m2. In construction, New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) was used in soft ground. Due to the challenging ground conditions, many problems have been encountered during tunnelling. To solve these problems special construction techniques were adapted. To simulate and demonstrate the effectiveness ...
Comparison of predictive models for forecasting timeseries data
Özen, Serkan; Atalay, Mehmet Volkan; Yazıcı, Adnan (2019-11-20)
© 2019 Association for Computing Machinery.Dramatic increase in data size enabled researchers to study analysis and prediction of big data. Big data can be formed in many ways and one alternative is through the use of sensors. An important aspect of data coming from sensors is that they are time-series data. Although forecasting based on time-series data has been studied widely, it is still possible to advance the state-ofthe- art by constructing new hybrid deep learning models. In this study, Random Forest...
