Development of an online support tool for biodiversity training of forest engineers in Turkey
Önal, Özgür Ş; Özden, M. Yaşar; Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (2014)
Biodiversity is one of the most important elements of the sustainable forestry practices. However, in Turkey biodiversity is not properly included in the forestry training curriculum and in professional training. There is a gap in the education of forest engineering about biodiversity. This study aims to fill this gap by developing an online support tool targeting dissemination of the biodiversity training with lower cost and time. The primary aim of this study is to explore the potential of web based tool ...
Measurement of inclusive jet and dijet production in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV using the ATLAS detector
Aad, G.; et. al. (2012-07-24)
Inclusive jet and dijet cross sections have been measured in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The cross sections were measured using jets clustered with the anti-kt algorithm with parameters R = 0.4 and R = 0.6. These measurements are based on the 2010 data sample, consisting of a total integrated luminosity of 37 pb(-1). Inclusive jet double-differential cross sections are presented as a function of jet transverse momentum, ...
Comparison of machine learning algorithms on consumer credit classification
Koç, Oğuz; Kestel, A. Sevtap.; Department of Financial Mathematics (2019)
Like other prediction models, credit scoring is a tool used to evaluate the amount of risk associated with applicants or customers. Scoring models identify clients individually as good or bad applicants. They offer statistical odds or probabilities for prediction either the applicant will be default or not in the future. It is beneficial for banks and credit analysts to measure customers' non-payment risk by statistically tested algorithms in many aspects such as reduction in workload and evaluation time. A...
Application of Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) method for genetic analyses
Karabıçak, Seher; Volkan, Mürvet; Kocabıyık, Semra; Department of Chemistry (2011)
Raman spectroscopy offers much better spectral selectivity but its usage has been limited by its poor sensitivity. The discovery of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effect, which results in increased sensitivities of up to 108-fold for some compounds, has eliminated this drawback. A new SERS active substrate was developed in this study. Silver nanoparticle-doped polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) coated SERS substrate prepared through chemical and electrochemical reduction of silver particles dispersed in the ...
Optimization of an energy harvester coupled to a vibrating membrane
Beker, Levent; Özgüven, Nevzat H.; Külah, Haluk (2013-12-11)
Resonant energy harvesters are generally designed for the operating frequency of the host structure. However, when the flexibility and mass parameters of the host structure are comparable to those of the energy harvester, mounting an energy harvester on the host structure may change the vibration characteristics of the host structure considerably. In this study, modeling and optimization of an energy harvester coupled to a vibrating membrane are presented to show the effect of dynamic coupling on maximum vo...
