In recent years, researchers in the field of architecture have recognized the importance of creating inclusive and supportive built environments for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). ASD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects individuals' sensory processing, social skills, behavior, and space perception. However, ethical considerations, communication difficulties, and attention problems have limited architectural research in this field. Current studies evaluating built environments for ASD users often rely on subjective methods, highlighting the need for more objective and quantitative data collection and analysis approaches. Virtual environments (VEs) integrated with game engines (GEs) have shown potential in addressing specific design features for ASD individuals, such as sensory design. By combining GEs with tools like Virtual Reality Headsets (VR), data loggers, and biometric measurement tools like Eye-tracking and EEG, the advantages of GEs can be further enhanced. These tools are crucial for addressing the complex design requirements of this user group, including sensory processing differences and communication difficulties. This study uses a mixed-methods approach, including a qualitative analysis of literature on autism-friendly space design and a comparative approach to explore the connections between VEs and ASD design criteria. This research aims to enhance research approaches for evaluating designs that cater to individuals with ASD. By addressing the complex requirements of designing autism-friendly spaces and harnessing the potential of VEs and game engines GEs, the aim is to contribute to developing more effective evaluation methods.
