Swell pressure prediction by suction methods
Erzin, Yusuf; Erol, Orhan (2007-07-10)
Soil suction is the most relevant soil parameter for characterization of the swell behavior. An attempt was made to predict swell pressures from soil suction measurements. In this study, Na-bentonite was mixed with kaolinite in the ratios of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25% of dry kaolinite weight to obtain soils in a wide range of plasticity indices (i.e. 30, 50, 68, 84 and 97%). Suction measurements using thermocouple psychrometer technique were made on statically compacted specimens. The dependence of soil suction ...
Swell pressure prediction by suction methods

Soil suction is the most relevant soil parameter for characterization of the swell behaviour. An attempt has been made to predict the swell pressures from soil suction measurements. Bentonite-Kaolinite clay mixtures were prepared to obtain soils in a wide range of plasticity indices. Suction measurements using thermocouple physchrometer technique and constant volume swell tests in oedometers were made on statically compacted specimens. Soil suction is correlated to plasticty index, water content and dry den...
Pressure prediction on a variable-speed pump controlled hydraulic system using structured recurrent neural networks
KILIÇ, Ergin; Dölen, Melik; Çalışkan, Hakan; Koku, Ahmet Buğra; Balkan, Raif Tuna (Elsevier BV, 2014-05-01)
This paper presents a study to predict the pressures in the cylinder chambers of a variable-speed pump controlled hydraulic system using structured recurrent neural network topologies where the rotational speed of the pumps, the position and the average velocity of the hydraulic actuator are used as their inputs. The paper elaborates the properties of such networks in extended time periods through detailed simulation- and experimental studies where black-box modeling approaches generally fail to yield accep...

Flow structure characterization in conical spouted beds using pressure fluctuation signals
MOSTOUFI, Navid; Külah, Görkem; KÖKSAL, MURAT (2015-01-01)
Characteristics of the hydrodynamics of conical spouted beds were revealed by analyzing pressure fluctuation signals in the frequency domain. Experiments were carried out in spouted beds with three different cone angles (30 degrees, 45 degrees, 60 degrees) and high density spherical particles (rho(p) = 6050 kg/m(3)) with diameters of 0.5 or 1 mm. Different hydrodynamic structures in the movement of solids were identified by examining pressure fluctuations of the bed in the frequency domain. Peaks in the pow...
