Modern buildings have many features and values as they represent the transition to a completely new era with its functional approach to the requirements of the time they were built. However, due to its characteristics, this building group has also many problems and is faced with the threat of abandonment and destruction. One of the most important reasons for this is the buildings from this period cannot adapt to the conditions of the contemporary life and cannot meet the expectations of their users. The problems encountered in the adaptation of modern heritage to contemporary life are directly related to the users of these buildings. In particular, housing is the building group that is in the most critical position in user-oriented adaptation, as it is the type of building that is most in contact with its user. Maliye Evleri, designed by Emin Onat in 1956, is a significant modern housing heritage facing the danger of demolishment because of this problem. The inability to respond to the needs of its users creates challenges in the adaptation of Maliye Evleri to requirements of today. In this context, this thesis aims to develop user-oriented adaptation strategies for the conservation of modern housing heritage through Maliye Evleri case. For this purpose, in this study, the concept of adaptation and the problems of modern housing heritage are examined; the values, problems and user expectations of Maliye Evleri are analyzed, and conservation principles and strategies are developed accordingly.
