METU Gaziantep Engeneering Faculty (1970s)

METU Gaziantep Campus began its education in 1973 in Gaziantep with the Mechanical Engineering Department established under the METU Engineering Faculty. It was the first METU campus established outside Ankara. With the opening of the Electrical Engineering Department in 1974, these two departments were transformed into Gaziantep Engineering Faculty. In 1974, the Department of Basic Sciences and Language Department was established. The Department of Applied Chemistry was added to the faculty in 1977. İnşaat Mühendisliği was established in 1981, and in 1982 the Department of Applied Chemistry was transformed into the Food Engineering Department and the Basic Sciences Department into the Physics Engineering Department. The architectural project of the campus where the faculty is located is given by Prof.Dr. Enis Kortan, Professor Adnan Selçuk Taşpınar was designed by Prof. Erkut Şahinbaş. On June 7, 1987, the Gaziantep Campus and the Faculty of Engineering in Gaziantep were transformed into Gaziantep University.
