In this study, first, Analytical Hierarchy Process and Geographic Information Systems have been applied to detect suitable sites for future offshore wind power plants in Marmara Region, Türkiye. Site selection criteria have been determined based on literature review, then relative importances of these criteria have been computed based on a questionnaire answered by 11 international experts on offshore wind power plant site selection. In total, 5 regions are identified as suitable sites. In the second stage, three idealized seabed soil profiles have been identified which could represent Southern Marmara Sea and 12 preliminary monopile design cases have been studied considering different idealized soil profiles, pile diameters and p-y curve recommendations. Considered p-y curve recommendations include the current and the newly proposed recommendations of the American Petroleum Institute. It is found that newly proposed p-y curve recommendation could result in 20-30% reduced monopile penetration depth leading to a more economical foundation solution. Also, it is found that in certain soil/loading conditions, it may provide a satisfactory design while the current p-y recommendation cannot.
