This master's thesis examines the role performances of Turkey in the Middle East with the focus on 2011-2022 period, particularly in its bilateral relations with Israel and Saudi Arabia, within the conceptual framework provided by the role theory of foreign policy analysis. The study focuses on the ideational and material sources of Turkey's national role conceptions, and aims to explain Turkey's foreign policy choices. The findings suggest that Turkey's national role conceptions are under transition after Arab uprisings due to its limited material capacity, and that Turkey is undergoing a complex and ongoing strategic adaptation process driven by its role sources with the focus on material factors. Despite the tensions and contradictions in its foreign policy, Turkey's role as an economic partner, regional leader and possible as a mediator and regional security provider has the potential to enhance its influence in the Middle East.
