Double Field Theory (DFT) is a proposal to incorporate T-duality, a distinctive symmetry of string theory, as a symmetry of a field theory defined on a double configuration space. In this thesis, the mathematical basis and the underlying geometry of DFT will be studied. We also review how Yang-Mills theory can be incorporated to DFT and how Bianchi identities, conserved currents and conserved charges can be defined. We also discuss how the undetermined parts of the Riemann tensor employed in DFT can be unambiguously fixed.
