Transient response of a cylindrical cavity with and without a bonded shell in an infinite elastic medium
Zakout, U; Akkas, N (1997-09-01)
The solution is obtained for the transient response to a nontorsional surface load of an infinite. isotropic. elastic medium containing a cylindrical cavity with and without a thin elastic shell embedment using the Residual Variable Method. The main advantage of the present approach is that it eliminates the computational problems arising in the existing methods which are primarily based on the Fourier transformation technique. Numerical results for the displacements and stresses at different locations are ...
Residual stress analysis of riveting process using finite element method
Karasan, M Murat; Kadıoğlu, Fevzi Suat; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2007)
Rivets are widely used as a means of fastening in airframe construction industry. There are various types of riveted joints on an aircraft fuselage or on a helicopter body. Among the other types of fasteners riveted joints are preferred in such applications due to; their permanence after installation and their economical advantages. In a riveted joint, it is known that residual stresses are present as a result of the installation process. Furthermore, during the flight of an aircraft, the fuselage is loaded...
ELECTRON POLARIZATION IN A QUANTUM-WELL WITH UNIFORM ELECTRIC-FIELD
ILAIWI, KF; Tomak, Mehmet (1991-06-01)
The polarization of a quantum electron confined in a one-dimensional potential well in the presence of a uniform electric field is calculated numerically. We find that the negative polarization of the first excited state in previous calculations is solely due to the neglect of the electric field outside the quantum well.
Pulsed optically stimulated luminescence from α-Al2O3:C using green light emitting diodes
Bulur, Enver (1997-01-01)
Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) from alpha-Al2O3:C was investigated using green light emitting diodes (LED) for excitation. Time resolved luminescence characteristics of the samples were studied by pulsing the LEDs during the readout. The effects of excitation light intensity, pulse width and readout temperature on the OSL signal were investigated. The radiation dose response of the dosimeters with above mentioned parameters was also evaluated for the applicability to radiation dosimetry.
Vacuum decay and the transmission resonances in space-dependent electric fields
Dumlu, Cesim K. (2014-03-11)
We investigate the decay of a quantum electrodynamical (QED) vacuum in arbitrary space-dependent electric fields. In particular, we analyze the resonance peaks of the positron emission spectrum for the external fields with subcycle structure. For this, we study the transmission probability in the framework of the scattering approach to vacuum pair production. In an under-the-barrier scattering regime, we show that the width of a transmission resonance can be enhanced when the effective scattering potential ...
