The essential role logistics plays in the global economy and the primary position of transportation in global logistics have become conspicuously visible. Hence, this study aims to examine the conditions of labour in the logistics sector in Türkiye. By first examining the trajectory of logistics, the thesis places itself into the context of global developments and their reflections on Türkiye. Building on the claims that the efforts to ensure the continuity of seamless circulation created similar strategies in different countries, homogenizing the effects of the transformation of logistics on labour, this study scrutinises the Turkish case by studying the condition of labour in logistics in Türkiye. To question the veracity of these claims, field research is conducted based on in-depth semi-structured interviews with different actors in the intracity highway transportation sector in three cities in Türkiye is conducted. The research analyses the conditions of labour in the intracity highway transportation sector based on three dimensions: the legal dimension, the socio-spatial dimension and the technological dimension. First of all, the thesis identifies three types of employment relations in the sector. The study further underlines the significance of social relations among workers and between workers and managers/employers for determining the conditions of work as well as the importance of labour’s agency over work. Lastly, the study points out that while technological equipments are not used as widely as they are used in other countries, the ones in use are not used for surveillance and control in the way the literature indicates.
