This study attempts to address the question of what existence is in the Kantian framework not only by analyzing Kant’s negative thesis that existence is not a real predicate but also by explicating the hidden implications of this thesis. The three main goals of the study are to show (i) that existence is positing, (ii) that “existence” or “actuality” can be understood both in the sense of “what is actual” as well as in the sense of “actuality in general,” and (iii) that a sufficient understanding of the priority relation between possibility and actuality depends on a sufficient understanding of the relation between subjectivity and objectivity.
