Identification of biomarkers associated with partial epithelial to mesenchymal transition in the secretome of slug over-expressing hepatocellular carcinoma cells
Karaosmanoglu, Oguzhan; Banerjee, Sreeparna; SİVAS, HÜLYA (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2018-08-01)
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Complete epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) has long been considered as a crucial step for metastasis initiation. It has, however, become apparent that many carcinoma cells can metastasize without complete loss of epithelial traits or with incomplete gain of mesenchymal traits, i.e., partial EMT. Here, we aimed to determine the similarities and differences between complete and partial EMT through over-expr...
Identification and killer activity of a yeast contaminating starter cultures of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains used in the Turkish baking industry
Izgu, F; Altinbay, D; Yucelis, A (Elsevier BV, 1997-04-01)
The yeast contaminating the starter cultures of Saccharomyces cerevisiae fermentation strains BSP 1-4, used in the Turkish baking industry, was identified as Candida tropicalis with a killer phenotype. The activity of the killer toxin against the industrial strains was optimum at pH 3.9 and 4.1 at 22-25 degrees C. The activities of some killer toxin-producing yeasts of known phenotypes against C. tropicalis were determined. Among the yeasts tested S. cerevisiae K3 and Hansenula anamola K8 were inhibitory to...

IDENTIFICATION OF LACTOBACILLUS STRAINS FROM TURKISH-STYLE DRY FERMENTED SAUSAGES
Gültekin, Güzin Candan; WEISS, N (1995-01-01)
A total of 31 strains of facultatively anaerobic, non-motile, Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacteria were isolated from different Turkish dry sausage (soudjouk) samples. They were determined as belonging to the genus Lactobacillus and subjected to a taxonomic study. The strains were divided into seven groups based on sugar fermentation pattern and other physiological and morphological characteristics. A variety of biochemical and genetic characteristics were also examined for species differentation of these iso...
Identification of rare cell types in lung cancer and investigation of their use in prognosis
Yıldız, Cemal; Şengül Babal, Simge; Pir, Pınar (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Enformatik Enstitüsü; 2022-10)
Cancer is a complex, dynamic and heterogeneous disease. Identification of tumor heterogeneity holds a significant promise not only on tumor classification but also on predicting the prognosis and choosing the right treatment. Therefore, it is essential to investigate tumor heterogeneity in a regular diagnosis procedure. Tumors contain variety of cell types such as malignant cells, non-malignant cells, immune cells, and rare cells (i.e., dormant cells (DRM) and cancer stem cells (CSC))....
