This study focuses on investigating the influence of parental education on women's probability of completing university education in Turkey. The study utilizes the 2008 and 2018 Turkey and Demographic Health Surveys conducted by the Hacettepe University Institute of Population Studies. The probit estimation method is employed to analyze the data. The analysis reveals a consistent and positive relationship between parents' education and their daughters' likelihood of completing university education, both in 2008 and 2018. Notably, the study challenges the prevailing notion that maternal education holds a stronger influence on children's academic success. The results indicate no statistically significant difference in the impact of maternal versus paternal education on daughters' probability of attaining a university degree, suggesting that both parents' educational background contribute equally to the likelihood of their daughters' university graduation. Examining the changes over time, the study observes a significant decrease in the effect of mothers with at least high school diploma on their daughters' probability of completing university education. This decline can be attributed to factors such as the elimination of tuition fees in public universities in 2012, which increased access to higher education. Additionally, the establishment of new public universities across various provinces in Anatolia increased opportunities for university enrollment and completion. Consequently, the relative impact of maternal educational background diminished as more individuals gained access to university education. Conversely, the estimated effect of fathers' education level on their daughters' university completion did not show a significant difference between two years, regardless of fathers' education.
