Ranking and Control of Noise Sources in a Power Plant

1986-7
The noise problem in power plants is of major concern both at administrative levels and among the employees. The high number of noise sources with differing noise radiation characteristics requires the development of a total approach that considers the applicable noise control measures on almost all the noisy equipment. One needs to carry a comprehensive survey to rank the noise sources prior to devising such measures evaluated on the basis of technical and economical feasibility criteria. The power plant of an iron and steel complex is studied to demonstrate the ranking procedure of the noise sources. The plant is capable of producing electricity (55 MW in three turbo-generator units) and of delivering steam in 4 boilers and hot air in 3 turboblowers (two in operation, one standby) to the complex. Part of the plant is housed in a building while the remaining part lies outside next to the building. All the turboblowers, two of the turbogenerators, and two of the boilers are located in the building.
