Mathematical Modelling for Dynamic Response Analysis of Partially Coated or Laminated Plates-An Energy Approach

An approximate method is suggested for the dynamic analysis of non-proportionally damped plates. An energy approach is used to represent the damping of a laminated plate by a single hysteretic damping element with a different value at each mode. The damping element is inserted between the plate and ground in transverse direction. The response of the equivalent system at an undamped natural frequency is obtained from the undamped response of the system and the value of the external damping insert. The modelling technique is verified by comparing the computational values with experimental results for three bending modes of a partially coated plate.
