Urethane based compounds, in other words carbamates, have been an emerging topic in the field of medicinal chemistry as drugs or drug intermediates. However, the scope of the studies possessing urethane functionalities excludes chromophore-type structures. The aim in this thesis is to synthesize push-pull type urethane-based chromophores via [2+2] cycloaddition-retroelectrocylization (CA-RE) reactions between electron-rich urethane-substituted alkynes and electron-deficient olefins. Structurally diverse alkyne groups have been synthesized, and their electron-donating abilities have been investigated. The optoelectronic properties of target chromophores have been studied experimentally with UV/Vis spectroscopy. The target molecules showed promising optoelectronic features which can later be utilized for device fabrications.
