Flicker source identification at a point of common coupling of the power system
Altıntaş, Erinç; Ermiş, Muammer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
Voltage fluctuations under 30 Hz in the electricity grid, leads to oscillations in the light intensity that can be perceived by human eye, which is called flicker. In this thesis, the sources of the flicker at a point of common coupling is investigated. When there are more than one flicker sources connected to a PCC, individual effects of each flicker source is determined by using a new method which depends on the reactive current components of the sources. This method is mainly based on the flickermeter de...

Chatter detection using vibrational and acoustic emissions in turning process
Süleyman, Büyükkoçak; Kılıç, Şener; Özer, Mehmet Bülent; Ünver, Hakkı Özgür (null; 2013-09-20)
Chatter vibration is a longstanding problem for machining industry. It lowers both surface finish quality and life of cutting tool. In this study, real time chatter vibration detection system is designed and tested experimentally. A traditional lathe, equipped with two accelerometers placed on cutting tool in two orthogonal coordinates and a microphone, is used for machining a steel rod in face turning operation. During cutting process analog data of accelerometers and microphone is acquired by data acquisi...
Vibration fatigue analysis and testing of notched beams
Demirel, Gürzap İsmail; Kayran, Altan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2019)
Mechanical fatigue is an important phenomenon when the structures are exposed to dynamic, fluctuating loadings. Especially aerospace structures are commonly exposed to random vibration loadings. Even if the components are stable and durable for static requirements, vibration fatigue failures can occur due to the dynamic and fluctuating loadings. Moreover, if the loading frequency has a wide bandwidth as in random vibration loadings, the natural frequencies or resonance regions of the structures are disturbe...
Noise exposure and work performance analysis in oil industry
Dal, U.; Birlik, G. A. (2012-05-27)
The petrochemical plant studied in this study is located at an altitude of roughly 2.200 meters from the sea level. Eleven buildings are dispersed over an area of 40.000 m(2). The average temperature in January is -11,4 degrees C and 16,3 degrees C in July. 92 employees work in a shift system (14 days "On" - 14 days "Off") in the plant. Measured L-eq values were in the range of 81,2 to 110,2 dBA. Workplace Index (WPI) was (2,9 / 5,0).
