Weathering affects rocks due to their fractures, pore spaces, joints, faults, bedding planes. Road cuts are prone to weathering effects since rock masses are disturbed due to excavation. The reduced strength affects the stability of the cut slope over the engineering time span. The purpose of this thesis is to assess the stability of some cut slopes near Ankara and perform slake durability test and compare the test results both standard and discard methods with field observations. In this study, 12 different cut slopes were examined that have different rock types such as shale, sandstone, siltstone, chert, diabase, granite, serpentinite, andesite, dacite. These cut slopes are located near Ankara, Turkey and have heights between 4.40 and 38 meters. Field studies were done to collect data of the cut slopes. Weathering degree, excavation type, discontinuity properties, geometry information on cut slopes were examined in the field. Schmidt rebound hardness test was done as an in-situ test to determine strength of the rocks. In addition, samples were taken from each cut slope to perform laboratory experiments such as unit weight, point load strength index test and slake durability test. On the basis of the information collected, slope stability analyses were conducted for static and dynamic conditions. It is found that the cut slopes are stable under both static and dynamic conditions with local surface degradations. Slake durability of rocks at each cut slope evaluated by conducting two different slake durability method which are standard and discard method. Based on the test results standard method of slake durability test does not match with real conditions observed in the field. However, the discard method of the slake durability gives better results.
