Experimental and numerical analysis of dry forward combustion with diverse well configuration
Akın, Serhat; Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2002-07-01)
In situ combustion is a thermal recovery technique where energy is generated by a combustion front that is propagated along the reservoir by air injection. Most of the previously conducted studies report thermal and fluid dynamics aspects of the process. Modeling in situ combustion process requires extensive knowledge of reservoir data as well as reaction kinetics data. Unfortunately, limited kinetic data are available on the rates and the nature of partial oxidation reactions and the high-temperature combu...
Experimental and numerical failure analysis of advanced composite structures with holes
Atar, Mehmet Bilal; Parnas, Kemal Levend; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2016)
In this work, a design methodology for advanced composite structures with holes is presented. A three dimensional finite element model (FEM) is constructed to simulate such a structural application similar to weight-pockets in helicopter blades. Material properties are obtained by a material characterization study. The progressive failure method with FEM is used for the material degradation. In order to induce delamination in simulation, cohesive layers are implemented between composite layers. Results are ...
Experimental and numerical analysis of effect of curing time on mechanical properties of thin spray-on liners
Güner, Doğukan; Öztürk, Hasan; Department of Mining Engineering (2014)
This research study investigates the effect of curing time on elastic material properties (Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio) and tensile, compressive strength of thin spray on liners (TSL). TSLs are fast curing, comparatively thin (3-5mm) and widely used rock support system in mining and civil engineering excavations. They have advantages of low volume, rapid application and low operating cost. The major ingredients of current TSLs are divided as polyurethane/ polyurea or Portland cement based latex product...

Experimental and finite element analysis of rotary draw tube bending process
Dere, Fatih; Darendeliler, Haluk; İder, Kemal; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2014)
Rotary draw bending, which has very good flexibility and easy tooling, is one of the most preferred bending types for tubular profiles. Cross-section distortion and the spring-back phenomena are commonly faced problems in bending processes. Spring-back is the inevitable problem that is to be solved by manufacturer, generally by overbending. For hollow tubes cross-section distortion is another difficulty since using hollow tubes results in higher strain rates and distortions. During the process the thickness...
