Respiratory devices mechanically supply air to patients that have difficulty in breathing with the help of a blower fan. The objective of this study is to optimize the noise level of a centrifugal blower fan that is going to be used in the respiratory device. Centrifugal blower geometries are modeled with CFTurbo software at the predetermined design point. Various fan designs are generated with changing volute and fan geometry with the help of the statistical software JMP. These multiple designs are analyzed with ANSYS Fluent. Statistical and computational fluid dynamics analysis of the blower designs resulted in an optimized geometry, which delivers the maximum volume flow rate with a minimal noise level. The optimized design is produced by rapid prototyping (3D SLA printer). Finally, the baseline blower geometry and the optimized geometry are investigated experimentally. The noise prediction in the Design of Experiments (DOE) model and performed experimental measurements of the manufactured prototype are compared.
