Hot-pressed hydroxylapatite/monoclinic zirconia composites with improved mechanical properties
Evis, Zafer (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2007-04-01)
Composites of hydroxylapatite (HA) and monoclinic zirconia were hot-pressed at 1100 degrees C and 1200 degrees C under vacuum to study the phase transformations and the mechanical properties. X-ray diffraction results showed a higher phase transformation from monoclinic-ZrO2 to tetragonal-ZrO2 when the sintering temperature increased from 1100 degrees C to 1200 degrees C. HA decomposed faster when the amount of ZrO2 in the composites increased. Moreover, small amount of alpha-TCP and CaZrO3 was observed in ...
Hot Cracking Susceptibility of Twin Roll Cast Al-Mg Alloy Welds
Tirkes, Sueha; Batıgün, Caner; Ankara, Alpay (2010-01-01)
The hot cracking susceptibility of two different Al-Mg alloys during welding at various applied strains was investigated. At each strain value, the amount of hot cracking susceptibility increased with increasing magnesium content. Thermal analysis results verified that hot cracking susceptibility indeed call be related to the solidification range. As suggested in the solidification range approach, the results of the present Study confirm that the extent of solidification and liquation cracking depend oil th...
Hot dynamic consolidation of aifevsi alloy powders
Kotan, Şevkiye Ezgi; Kalkanlı, Ali; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2005)
The experimental alloy powders of 1% Mg treated Al-8Fe-1.8V-8Si were obtained by air atomization. The screen analysis of powders was made by sieves with meshes ranging from +90æm, +63æm, +53æm, +45æm, +38æm to -38æm. Unreinforced and TiC particulate reinforced specimens were produced by hot dynamic consolidation which is known as hot swaging. Powders were canned into pure aluminium tubes of about 10cm length and 2.2cm diameter. Single action and double action cold pressing were applied to some of the specim...

Heat treatment of iron ore agglomerates with microwave energy
Çırpar, Çiğdem; Arol, Ali İhsan; Department of Mining Engineering (2005)
Pelletizing is a size enlargement technique employed to process fine-grained iron-bearing concentrates and powder ores. Mechanical strength of fired pellets is important for handling. When the pellets undergo metallurgical processing, their mechanical strength is a measure of their resistance to degradation by breakage due to impacts and abrasion to which they are exposed in the upper part of the blast furnace. In this study, heat treatment of iron ore agglomerates with microwave energy is investigated. Fir...
