An experimental technique for the micrographic analysis of filter cakes has been developed. The application of the methods of quantitative stereology is discussed. The features of the coal filter cake structure which include particle and pore size distributions, particle segregation and porosity variation with distance and air bubble entrapment are discussed. In an attempt to establish a reference base for coal cakes, narrowly sized glass bead filter cakes were studied. (A)
