Preparation and characterization of conducting polybutadiene/polythiophene composites
Kiralp, S; Kucukyavuz, Z; Qasrawi, AF (2003-01-01)
Conductive composite films of cis-1,4-polybutadiene (PBD) with polythiophene, (PTh) were prepared electrochemicallly. Thiophene was polymerized on PBD-coated platinium electrodes. The composites with different PTh percentages showed conductivity in the order of 10(-3) (Omega cm)(-1). The characterization of the films was performed using FTIR, scanning electron microscope and differential scanning calorimetry techniques. In order to understand the dominant transport mechanism, the temperature dependence of c...
Preparation and Characterization of Polypropylene/Serpentine Composites
Tan, Semra; Tincer, İsmail Teoman (Wiley, 2011-07-15)
Composites of serpentine and polypropylene (PP) were prepared by twin-screw extrusion. Serpentine was collected as rocks from the Ankara-Beynam region and ground into powder with an average particle size of about 3 mu m for composite production. Both as-received (rock) and powdered serpentine were characterized. A silane coupling agent (SCA), gamma-aminopropyl triethoxy silane, was used for the surface treatment of serpentine. Mechanical properties of the composites were measured in terms of impact strength...
Preparation and characterization of zeolite beta-polyurethane composite membranes
Aksoy, Eda Ayse; Akata, Burcu; Bac, Nurcan; Hasırcı, Nesrin (2007-06-05)
Incorporation of zeolite into polyurethane (PU) membranes was investigated by using as-synthesized and calcined zeolite beta particles at two different loading contents (0.1 and 1 wt %). The chemical interaction between the zeolite beta crystals and PU was observed by ATR-FTIR spectroscopy. The SEM results suggested that the calcined zeolite beta crystals were more homogeneously dispersed in the composite membranes than the assynthesized zeolite beta crystals. DMA results demonstrated that all composite mem...
Preparation and Characterization of Antibacterial Zeolite-Polyurethane Composites
Kamisoglu, K.; Çatman Aksoy, Emine; Akata Kurç, Burcu; Hasırcı, Nesrin; BAÇ, NURCAN (2008-12-05)
In this study, antibacterial properties were induced in polyurethane (PU) films by the incorporation of Ag+-loaded zeolites as fillers. The mechanical and thermal properties of the prepared composites were also investigated. For this purpose, two different types of zeolite microparticles, high-silica zeolite beta crystals and low-silica zeolite A crystals, were synthesized. Ag+ was added by ion exchange, and these particles were incorporated into the PU prepolymer, which was prepared from its main component...
Preparation and characterization of polymer composites containing boron compounds
Topçuoğlu, Elif; Bayram, Göknur; Sezgi, Naime Aslı; Department of Chemical Engineering (2016)
Epoxy (EP) is a thermosetting polymer which has high dimensional stability. However, the brittleness, low resistance to impact failure and flammability are some limitations of the epoxy polymer. These properties limit the usage of epoxy in the applications where high mechanical strength and flame retardancy properties are needed. The purposes of this study are to improve both mechanical and flame retardancy properties of epoxy by the addition of boron containing compounds (BCC) mainly boron carbide (B4C), a...
