The present paper is concerned with the analysis of simply-supported, adhesively bonded orthotropic plates when excited by suddenly applied nonperiodic excitations. Both effects of thickness and shear deformation in the adhesive layer are included. The loading conditions considered include half-sine, rectangular, triangular and exponential pulses. These pulses can be distributed uniformly or sinusoidally over the plate, concentrated at a point or distributed over a small rectangular area. First, the response of the system to a unit impulse with one of the above mentioned distributions is obtained through Fourier series expansion of the displacement functions and the applied load. Then, convolution integral is used to find the response of the system to different pulse shapes. Response of the system is plotted for different pulses. Magnification factors are presented and extensive parametric studies are performed.
