Magnetic Resonance Electrical Impedance Tomography (MREIT) algorithms to reconstruct conductivity distribution using current density distribution have been proposed in literature. The current density distribution can be determined by measuring distribution of magnetic flux density, B, generated by externally applied currents. This technique is known as Magnetic Resonance Current Density Imaging (MRCDI). Calculation of current density distribution from magnetic flux density measurements requires all three components of B using Biot-Savart law. Since MRI scanner can measure only the component of B parallel with the main magnetic field, object rotation is required to measure all three components of B for a given current injection pattern. In this study, a novel current density reconstruction algorithm using only the z-component of B, Bz, is proposed. © 2010 International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering.
