This research conducts an analysis of how racialization processes and xenophobic discourses towards the Turkish-speaking communities in the UK are portrayed in online newspapers before and after the Brexit period. Through interviews conducted with eight Turkish journalists residing in the UK, this study aims to reveal the underlying motives shaping these portrayals and understand the purpose they serve in the broader societal context through their eyes. The main objective is to comprehend the purpose behind by these portrayals, the processes through which they are constructed and, more specifically, to clarify how racialization influences societal perceptions of Turkish-speaking communities. In addition, with a content analysis of two widely read newspapers in the UK, The Guardian and The Daily Mail, that prominently express their ideological views, the study aims to examine the narratives and discourses surrounding Turkish-speaking communities and to identify the main differences in the content, discourse, and narratives concerning Turks in the news produced by these two newspapers. Additionally, the study aims to explain the commonalities and differences between the discourses in online newspapers and the responses provided by the interviewed journalists. It concludes that a specific discourse, strategically employed to portray Turkish-speaking communities negatively, was adopted by various politicians and newspapers throughout the Brexit period. Interestingly, as the Brexit period concluded, the discourse returned to normal, indicating a temporal and contextual aspect to the instrumental adoption and normalization of negative portrayals in online newspapers and political rhetoric.
