The main aim of this study is to analyze how peasant women involved in the environmental movement in the Akbelen Forest perceive their relationship with the forest as well as the effects of defending the forest in their everyday life. Women play an essential role in the increasing number of environmental movements in Turkey. Women, considered one of the fragile groups in the face of the environmental destruction in the literature, actively involved in various environmental movements to protect nature and living spaces. Ecofeminism examines the relationship between women and nature by discussing the connection between humankind's domination over nature and men's domination over women. Accordingly, the destruction of nature and the life of women are closely related. In this study, within the framework of ecofeminist theory, the experiences of women struggling to protect the Akbelen Forest in İkizköy neighborhood of Milas district of Muğla against the cutting of trees that started with the mining activity are examined. Based on semi-structured in-depth interviews with women involved in protests, this study investigates women's perception of nature, the effects of deforestation on their daily lives, and the experiences of taking part in the environmental movement as a woman. This thesis claims that long-standing protests transform both their relationship with nature and their daily life practices. Participating in the environmental movement enhances women’s role in decision-making processes and empowers them.
