As the global population increases and the need for buildings expands, the construction industry has emerged as a primary driver of waste production and resource utilization. As a result, the influence of sector on the economy and environment is growing as well. By reducing the environmental impact of the sector and the natural resources consumption, preferring a circular economy model in contrast to the traditional linear economy approach can help address these problems. Circular economy (CE) has recently gained attention due to the need to recycle, with the goal of minimizing carbon emissions and material consumption. Although much research has been conducted to understand the awareness on CE principles and their promotion, there are still some challenges for the construction industry to make a transition towards a circular economy model. The barriers and enablers that will assist the construction sector towards circular economy need to be known, and the perspectives of various stakeholders on their roles should be explored. The objective of this study is to identify the perspectives of construction stakeholders on their roles for transitioning to CE. Accordingly, a systematic literature review for determining the impact of barriers and enablers on the construction industry and the involvement of stakeholders in the implementation of these enablers is performed. Perspectives of various stakeholders are acquired through a survey, and results are assessed using Social Network Analysis (SNA). The similarities and differences in the reflections of stakeholders are discussed. This thesis contributes to the construction management literature by reflecting the perspectives of construction stakeholders on the barriers and enablers of CE and the roles of the stakeholders in supporting the adoption of CE in construction projects.
