This paper summarises the preliminary results of a five-year study oftechnological systems in Sweden, namely those supporting factoryautomation, electronics and computer technology, pharmaceuticals(especially biotechnology), and powder technology. For each of these areas, the technological system is described: how Sweden is supplied with newtechnology, who the most important agents are (foreign and domesticsuppliers, research institutes, academic institutions, science and technologypolicy actors), and what characterises the networks through which theyinteract. The. public policy issues arising in the analysis are discussed.
