Cultural heritage conservation approaches require policies and strategies that respond to the changes in living standards and conditions. With an increasing focus on sustainable development, the intersection between cultural heritage and changing socio-cultural and economic dynamics becomes necessary to address. Besides providing cultural sustainability, the preservation of cultural heritage may have positive impacts on the economy, environmental sustainability, social inclusion, community, and local identity. It is essential to assess these possible contributions holistically to ensure safeguarding and cultural continuity of heritage buildings. Accordingly, this thesis aims to address the impacts of cultural heritage buildings on sustainable development. To assess the impact, a holistic approach was adopted to fully understand the multidimensional effects of heritage buildings on social, economic, cultural and environmental sustainability. The proposed holistic framework was deduced from international charters and previous studies concerned about the subject of cultural heritage in relation to sustainable development. The proposed holistic sustainability assessment framework is utilized to evaluate the impact of the conservation project of İzmir Women's Museum, a historic building located in the city center Konak, İzmir. In order to analyze and evaluate the subject, the thesis comprises of research methods including literature review, data collection by archival research and site survey. By evaluating the selected building's multidimensional impact on sustainable development using the assessment framework, the significant role of cultural heritage in terms of economic, cultural, social, and environmental sustainability is presented.
