Spontaneous imbibition in low permeability carbonates
Hatiboglu, CU; Karaaslan, U; Akın, Serhat (Informa UK Limited, 2005-07-01)
Spontaneous imbibition is important in oil recovery from fractured and low permeability tight gas reservoirs. Gas-water spontaneous imbibition experiments were conducted using low permeability heterogeneous limestone core plugs. The interfacial tension was changed by adding differing amounts of alcohol to water. It was observed that the true residual saturation of gas is very small for all cases. A much larger pseudo-residual saturation was achieved early in the imbibition stage but gas continued to be prod...
Spontaneous copolymerization of maleic anhydride and N-vinylimidazole in 1,4-dioxane .1. Charge transfer complexation and kinetics of the copolymerization
Goksel, C; Hacioglu, B; Akbulut, Ural (1997-12-01)
Maleic anhydride (MAH) and N-vinylimidazole (NVIM) were found to form a charge transfer complex in 1,4-dioxane. The equilibrium constant, K, of the complex and its composition were calculated from the modified Benesi-Hildebrand equation by using UV spectrophotometry. Spontaneous copolymerization of MAH and NVIM has been studied in the range from 20 to 80 mol % MAH in the feed. The effects of the polymerization temperature, monomer feed composition, and total monomer concentration on the initial rate of poly...
Spontaneous polarization close to phase transitions in NaNO2
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit; Tari, O (2001-08-01)
We give here the calculation of the order parameter and the spontaneous polarization as functions of temperature using the mean field model close to the phase transitions in NaNO2. We have fitted our calculated order parameter to the observed one from the literature. From this fitting, we have then calculated the spontaneous polarization as a function of temperature close to the phase transitions in NaNO2. Our calculated spontaneous polarization is in good agreement with the observed spontaneous polarizatio...
Sequential growth factor delivery from polymeric scaffolds for bone tissue engineering
Yılgör, Pınar; Hasırcı, Nesrin; Department of Biotechnology (2009)
Tissue engineering is a promising alternative strategy to produce artificial bone substitutes; however, the control of the cell organization and cell behavior to create fully functional 3-D constructs has not yet been achieved. To overcome these, activities have been concentrated on the development of multi-functional tissue engineering scaffolds capable of delivering the required bioactive agents to initiate and control cellular activities. The aim of this study was to prepare tissue engineered constructs ...
Sequential growth factor delivery from complexed microspheres for bone tissue engineering
Başmanav, Fitnat Buket; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Department of Biotechnology (2007)
Complexed microspheres of poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (P4VN) and alginic acid were prepared by internal gelation method and subsequent freeze drying. The 4% and 10% microspheres were loaded with Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2 (BMP-2) and Bone Morphogenetic Protein-7 (BMP-7), respectively for in vitro studies and were entrapped in PLGA foams. Foams containing only 4%, BMP-2 microspheres, only 10%, BMP-7 microspheres and both populations were prepared. Control samples of each group were prepared with drug free micro...
