The main purpose of this study was to discover the expectations, motivations, and satisfaction of the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) academic community who utilized the academic writing center (the AWC) at a state university in Turkey. It also aimed to investigate the students and academics’ experiences in the tutorials as well as their use of Artificial Intelligence tools. The participants were 41 undergraduate, master and doctorate students who attended the sessions during the 2022-2023 academic year. A mixed-method design was employed, and the data were collected through a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. It was discovered that the participants had positive experiences and found the tutorials effective and useful. They expected to get help with organisation, clarity, grammar, vocabulary, and academic style mostly, and almost all their expectations were met in the tutorials. The highest motivations behind their visits were the wish to benefit from the services and opportunities offered by the writing center, to ask the things they cannot ask their advisors, and to be independent writers. The findings also revealed that they were most satisfied with one-to-one sessions, being active, and interaction in these sessions. It was found that most of the participants used Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools; however, they preferred to utilize the center due to collaboration and detailed feedback provided in the tutorials. Also, they found tools insufficient in some points. It was concluded that since the tutees were satisfied with the writing center, writing centers should maintain their existence by improving their services.
