Computational Design of Optical Couplers for Bended Nanowire Transmission Lines
Tuncyurek, Yunus Emre; Karaosmanoglu, Bariscan; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2017-07-01)
We present computational analysis, optimization, and design of optical couplers that can be useful to improve the transmission along bended nanowires. After demonstrating the deteriorated energy transmission due to sharp bends, which lead to out-of-phase nanowires and diffraction, we use a rigorous simulation environment to design efficient couplers made of spherical particles. For this purpose, an optimization module based on genetic algorithms is combined with the multilevel fast multipole algorithm, lead...
Computational modeling of thermal and shrinkage-induced cracking in concrete
Ghasabeh, Mehran; Göktepe, Serdar; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Department of Civil Engineering (2021-3-3)
This work is concerned with the computational modeling of thermal and shrinkage-induced cracking in concrete. Thermal and hygral gradients develop within concrete structures of varying sizes and aspect ratios due to the intrinsic physicochemical phenomena accompanied by adverse environmental effects. These spatio-temporal gradients invariably result in uneven volumetric deformations that can cause stress concentrations when the concrete is sufficiently rigid. Then, when the gained tensile strength is lower ...
Computational analysis of flapping airfoil aerodynamics
Tuncer, İsmail Hakkı; Ekaterinaris, John A. (null; 1994-01-01)
A Navier-Stokes, a potential flow and an interactive Navier-Stokes/potential flow analysis are described for the determination of the flowfield and of the aerodynamic forces generated by a flapping airfoil in low subsonic flow. The numerical solutions predict thrust for a sinusoidally flapping motion with a mean amplitude of 0.10 c and a reduced frequency of k = 1.5. The thrust producing vortical wake profiles are identified. The interactive Navier-Stokes/potential flow solution method yields as accurate a ...
Computational Modeling of Spintronic Materials
Sürücü, Gökhan (Frontiers, 2021-03-01)
In research topic “Computational Modeling of Spintronic Materials”, we collected 17 articles dealing with themes as below:i. Recent advances of spintronic materials;ii. Frontiers in computational modeling of functional materials.Heulser alloys are famous spintronic materials due to they usually host high Curie temperature and adjustable structures. Zhang et al. (Zhang et al., 2020) proposed quaternary Heusler compound CoCrScSn is a half-metal with 100% spin-polarization. Moreover, the elastic constants and ...
