Generally it is believed that education benefits the individuals as well as society. We refer to this as private and social benefits of education. There are various studies done both at theoretical and empirical levels to show the relationship between education and returns to education. In this paper first reference is made to four interesting econometric studies on this topic and then a model is developed where level of income is a function of the level of education, work experience, and gender. The research is conducted for North Cyprus. Parameters of the model arc estimated from the cross-sectional data obtained from the survey conducted in October 1995. The results arc interesting and support the hypothesis that level of education and work experience have positive effects on income. The empirical results also indicate that there is female - male earnings differential in North Cyprus like in many other countries.
