The worlds rapidly growing population and rapid urbanization are causing a crisis in terms of both climate and food. The impending climate and food crisis pushes all sectors in many areas to seek innovative solutions. In the agricultural sector, different production methods have been applied in recent years for these reasons. Vertical farming systems, one of the results of this search, offer food production in densely populated urban areas. This innovative approach, which also provides resource efficiency, is considered as a solution to climate and food security problems. However, moving agricultural production to urban centers is expected to create a spatial transformation. This study aims to examine this spatial transformation and the impacts of vertical farming on spatial planning and land use. The ultimate goal of this thesis is to investigate the possibility and potential of the spread of vertical farming and to analyze what kind of consequences and changes it will create at various spatial levels.
